Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo (L) and his teammate James Rodriguez (R) look on as Gareth Bale
Real Madrid confirmed Monday that Welsh winger Gareth
Bale is out of action with a torn muscle in his left calf, but
without putting a timeframe on his recovery.
However, according to sports dailies AS and Marca, Bale will be out
of action for up to three weeks. He suffered the injury in Real's 3-1
defeat of Malaga Saturday, which left the Whites two points behind
Liga leaders Barcelona.
It means Bale is missing for Wednesday's Champions League
quarter-final showdown against neighbours Atletico along with injured
playmaker Luka Modric and left-back Marcelo, suspended for one game.
In addition, striker Karim Benzema is doubtful with a knee injury.
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti played down the injury crisis, saying: "We
are not worried about these injuries.
"We will have to find solutions to some absence. This is a big
challenge, but we face it with optimism. We are hoping that the
Bernabeu will give us a big push."
The first leg in Atletico's Estadio Calderon was a tense 0-0 draw.
Real have failed to beat Atletico in seven meetings this season,
though they did prevail against them 4-1 after extra-time in last
season's Champions League final.
