Nick Faldo will play in his last Open at St Andrews
this summer on the 25th anniversary of his victory at the course
considered to be the home of golf.
The Englishman will join five-time Open Champion Tom Watson in making
a final appearance in the Championship, organizers reported on the
tournament website.
Faldo, a six-time major champion, will celebrate his 58th birhday
during the July 16-19 tournament at the Old Course.
"The Open and St Andrews will forever hold a significant place in my
heart," he said.
"My fondest moments on my journey with this great sport are woven
with pictures and emotions in this setting. It all means a huge
amount to me."
Faldo, who was knighted in 2009, won the Open at St Andrews in 1990
along with victories at Muirfield in 1987 and 1992. He also won a
hat-trick of US Masters titles in 1989, 1990 and 1996.
Faldo will also join some of golf's greatest players taking part in
the Champion Golfers' Challenge on Wednesday July 15, the eve of the
first round of the Open.
