Martin Fourcade of France celebrates after winning the Men's 20km individual competition at the Biathlon World
defended his men's individual 20km title at the biathlon world
championships in Kontiolahti, Finland, on Thursday by holding off the
challenge of Emil Hegle Svendsen.
Fourcade won in a time of 47 minutes 29.4 seconds to claim the sixth
worlds gold of his career while Norway's Svendsen finished 20.9
seconds behind. Ondrej Moravec of the Czech Republic took bronze,
40.5 seconds off Fourcade.
The French double Olympic champion Fourcade, who leads the current
World Cup standings, took a penalty for missing once on the second
shooting round but recovered to edge out the flawless Svendsen.
Moravec also had one miss.
Action in Kontiolahti continues Friday with the women's 4x6km relay.
