Mainz coach Schmidt signs three-year deal

Mainz's coach Martin Schmidt
Mainz have agreed a three-year contract with
Swiss coach Martin Schmidt, who took over in February following the
dismissal of Kasper Hjulmund.
General manager Christian Heidel said Tuesday Schmidt had been given
a contract until June 30, 2018, saying the coach "embodies the
passionate philosophy" of the club.
Schmidt, 48, coached the Under-23 side before being promoted in
February.
Mainz, who entertain Schalke on Friday, are 11th in the table, seven
points clear of the relegation play-off place.
